Days 1 and 2: San Francisco Riesling

On Day 1, you will check in for a two-night stay at the beautiful Handlery Union Square hotel, or you can upgrade to the luxurious Tuscan Inn Fisherman’s Wharf for an additional $38 per person. After enjoying a free afternoon of exploration, you’ll head to a renowned local Italian restaurant for dinner.

Day 2 begins with breakfast at your hotel, after which you’ll head across the iconic Golden Gate Bridge into California’s wine country for a Sonoma and Napa Valley wine-tasting tour. Visit Sonoma’s historic square, enjoy two or three winery visits, then return to the city via the Oakland Bay Bridge. Alternately, you can opt out of the wine-tasting tour to participate in a San Francisco city tour, or upgrade to a 13-hour Yosemite National Park adventure for an additional $80 per person.

Days 3, 4 and 5: California Pacific Tour

On Day 3, you’ll travel 154 miles from San Francisco to Monterey. After having breakfast at your hotel, you’ll be picked up around 8:15 a.m. to embark on the first leg of your journey, covering the San Andreas Fault to Half Moon Bay, where you’ll turn south on the Pacific Coast Highway to Santa Cruz. Along the way, you’ll enjoy stunning ocean and coastal views before reaching Monterey around midday.

In Monterey, you can take part in a guided tour of Cannery Row before lunching at your leisure and having an optional visit to the local aquarium. From there, you’ll continue to the seaside gardens of Pacific Grove and the scenic delights of 17 Mile Drive before stopping at Pebble Beach. The final leg of the day’s journey will bring you to the enchanting village of Carmel by the Sea, home to intimate art galleries and quaint cottages. Arriving at the Bay Park Hotel around 5:30 p.m., you’ll then dine at the hotel’s restaurant and have your evening free to spend as you wish.

Day 4 covers a 98-mile stretch from Monterey to Paso Robles, beginning with breakfast at the hotel and a free shuttle to the Salinas Train Station. There, you will board an Amtrak train at 11:48 a.m. and wind your way south, passing scenic towns, stunning countryside vistas, oil fields and stunning vineyards. At 1:38 p.m., you will arrive in the village of Paso Robles, where the Wine Wrangler Tour Company will lead you on an orientation of the charming town before dropping you off at the Paso Robles Inn.

On Day 5, you’ll log 258 miles on the trail and 110 tour miles en route from Paso Robles to Los Angeles, with a stop at Hearst Castle. The highlight of this leg of the journey is undoubtedly Hearst Castle, the lavish estate of late newspaper baron William Randolph Hearst. At the castle, you’ll take part in an easy two-hour guided tour, which concludes with a picnic lunch and shopping.

From Hearst Castle, you will travel on to San Luis Obispo, boarding the Coast Starlight train at 3:20 p.m. Along the way, you’ll enjoy more views of the Golden State’s wondrous Pacific coastline as you head through Santa Barbara and Oxnard. At about 6:00 p.m., the train will turn inland, traveling through mile after mile of orange groves before arriving at Union Station in Los Angeles at 9:00 p.m.

After checking in at the Miyako Hotel in Downtown L.A., you’ll be ready to begin the final two days of your adventure:
