FAQS for The Fantastic Hop-On Hop-Off Race

So how does 'The Fantastic Hop-On Hop-Off Race' exactly work?
Once the teams have been given the packet of puzzles, racers board a Starline CitySightseeing Hop-On Hop-Off open air bus that takes them to each of the first fifteen stops of the Red Route.

joys of finding the clue Each of the 15 stops contains a hidden clue in the area that must be found by having racers hop off the bus stop. The racers must then solve the corresponding puzzle designated in their packet. Using the clues, the teams must solve as many puzzles as they can in the given specified time.

Teams gain points for the puzzles they solve; however points can be deducted if they call the "help line" for hints to find a clue. Depending on the level of difficulty to solve, puzzles have different point values. There isn't enough time to solve all 15 puzzles so the decision as to whether or not to solve a puzzle at a given stop is up to the individual team. As they are being driven around to stops, racers get to enjoy a full guided narration and learn about the different points of interests and history on the Red Route as they travel throughout Hollywood, West Hollywood and Beverly Hills.

In order to compete for prizes, racers must be at the finish by the pre-determined time set forth by the race officials with their packet of solved puzzles. Packets are then graded by the game's host and the team with the most points wins.

Since there isn't enough time to make all the stops, will we know how many points each puzzle is worth hopping off for?
Yes. The point value of each stop will be explained in the packet that you receive when you check-in so you and your team can figure out a strategy of stops to hop off at.

Where does the tour begin?
Racers meet and check-in at 11:30am in the forecourt of the Chinese Theatre. They are then taken to the briefing spot in nearby Hollywood and Highland. The race organizer will distribute a packet that contains team badges (which you must show to participating businesses at various stops for clues), a map of the Red Route of the Starline CitySightseeing Hop-On Hop-Off Tour routes and a booklet of puzzles associated with each of the first 15 stops on the Red Route. At the same time, the organizer will explain the rules and establish teams.

How many people are on a team?
Teams can range from 2 to 8 players.

How do I get to play if I don't have a team?
We will happily place individuals on teams. Many lasting friendships have come from players assigned to teams.

How long is the tour?
The tour itself is 5 hours but with the introductory orientation and the finishing line awards ceremony. The entire experience is 6 hours.

Are there age restrictions?
There are no restrictions. Whether someone is 7 or 70 years young it's fun for all ages. After hopping off at a top you will need to search for your clues/hints on foot so be prepared for at least some of your team members to do some brisk walking or a little running at a couple of stops. Most clues though are solved close to the bus stops.

If we don't start in the morning, can we join in the middle of the day?
No. The start time is 12:00pm beginning with the briefing, so please be on time to ensure you are properly informed. Soon after orientation, the race starts and the tour won't be able available until the next scheduled race day.

Do I need to make reservations?
Due to limited space, reservations are highly recommended; however there may be stand-by openings on the morning of the tour. Please call ahead for availability.

What is the refund/cancellation policy?
There is no refund/cancellation within 24 hours of the tour departure as preparations have been made for the day.

What happens if there is bad weather?
Tours may be cancelled/re-scheduled due to inclement weather. This is determined at the sole discretion of company management. If cancelled, participants may either re-schedule for another day or receive a full refund.

Is the tour only for the Red Route?
